We believe that travel should be safe, liberating and exciting

Our Story

Carolyn PearsonIt was on a lonely business trip to LA that Maiden Voyage's founder, Carolyn Pearson, decided to create a network for professional women business travellers.  Passionate about travel, Carolyn was hugely disappointed at having missed the opportunity to get out and explore one of the world’s most vibrant cities and having returned to her native England she conducted market research to understand if other women felt the same way.  Encouragement to bring the site to life came from scores of other business women who had spent many lonely evenings in their hotel rooms, often working, usually eating room service to avoid the embarrassment of dining alone in a restaurant or being the subject of unwanted attention.

Carolyn launched maiden-voyage.com in 2008 and it was soon to be widely covered by the global press including the New York Times, the Guardian, CNN and BBC.

Shortly after launching, one of our members asked for a recommendation for a safe hotel in Beijing and that was the catalyst for the maiden-voyage.com brand standard for certified ‘Female-Friendly Hotels’.

Today maiden-voyage.com has members from all walks of professional life, from over 100 countries and is recognised as a world-leader in diverse traveller safety.

We’re here to support individual travellers

Whether you travel once in a  blue moon or you are an ardent road warrior we want to help you to get the most out of your business trip and especially when your working day has come to an end.  We believe that staying in with room-service or a deli takeaway is a missed opportunity, all the downside of a business trip and none of the benefits of company-funded travel.

We want to liberate you, to awaken your passion for travel, to encourage you to get out and explore a new city safely.

Connect with other like-minded professional and inspiring women for an evening, perhaps giving you the confidence to try a nice restaurant, see a show or just enjoy some great conversation over a relaxing glass of wine.

Our team of global ambassadors share their personal top tips so that you can have maximum enjoyment in your limited free time. Their little black books extend to where you can grab a good manicure, great shopping or a good hairdresser and they will also tell you about the local business etiquette and dress codes.

We're here to support employers

If diversity and inclusion is important to you and your organisation then one of the best ways to support your female and LGBTQ travellers is ensure that they are prepared and safe to travel on company business. Whilst equality for all is what we strive for, the world at large is not equal and it's important that your travellers are aware of the legal, cultural, health and security issues which they may face due to their gender or sexual orientation.

Whether you are a micro-organisation or a large multi-national, we have a range of online services, training solutions, eLearning and webinars to help you navigate the 'gender agenda' appropriately and sensitively.

Join our mailing list to keep up to date with exclusive offers, competitions, events, news and our latest recommended female friendly hotels.  Join our mailing list here.
