Brussels

Should we talk about Bruxelles or Brussel? The Capital of Europe speaks two official languages, French and Dutch, and when you walk through its streets you not only hear, but also see and smell what Europe is about. A real “melting pot” with its own unique character and a very welcoming society.

The heart of the city is populated by hardly 1 million inhabitants although its metropolitan area attracts over 2 million. Still relatively small compared to other European capitals, it is in fact a ‘sizeable’ nice city to live in.

Being at the crossroads of cultures (the Germanic in the North and the Romance in the South) it has always played an important role in Europe and much more as headquarters of many European institutions.

Its historic centre with the Grand Place or Grote Markt is the highlight attraction of the city and the starting point for any visit. Nineteen districts make up the variety of environments and atmospheres that you can experience in Brussels. From historic to administrative as well as trendy, chic, alternative… the choice is yours. Anywhere you walk you will find chocolates and beers to delight yourself with.

Travel and Transport

Right in the heart of Europe, Brussels has superb air, road and rail connections. More than 60 million Europeans live within 300km of Brussels, less than two hours by high-speed train. For those who fly in, it takes only 20 minutes from the airport to the city centre. And when you have arrived, it’s easy to move around the compact city, by public transport or on foot.
